"Being raised by my southern grandmother it was routine that my assigned contribution to her beloved recipe's would vary from snapping the tips off green beans, kneading dough for homemade biscuits, grating cheese for macaroni, and as I became older, frying chicken was a right of passage. More times than not I dreaded helping out in the kitchen before I was allowed to go outside and play. Little did I know at the time, I was being taught the art of patience, and Love that qualifies
food to become "Soul Food"
Needless to say when the time came to prepare meals for her own family intimidation was not a factor. In honor of the of the kitchen skills passed down to her she welcomed family and friends to her table for a full course Thanksgiving feast at 20 yrs. old, that too was Grandma's last Holiday season.
However cooking for other's was limited to family functions, school and church events. Upon completing her formal education she gravitated towards the business world. Eventually honing in on her creativity going from booking corporate events to planning.
Accepting a position as a floral designer for a fortune 500 company was only a step closer to doing what she loved. However coming to the realization that only those fortunate enough to enjoy such luxuries as elaborate floral arrangements was not fulfilling. Therefore what has always been thought of as "routine" lead to an "Ah ha" moment. Oprah Winfrey once said "if you do what you love it doesn't feel like work."
